The Mandalorian Fantasy League Week 8 Recap

Chapter 24: The Return

Hey Fan-dalorians!

The final week of the Mandalorian Fantasy League didn’t disappoint as nine League Characters scored 146 points, falling just two points below last week’s season high total. This episode saw Grogu score the highest single week point total of the season and the death of GROUP C character Moff Gideon. No one said the word beskar in this episode and the season finished without any points being won from the Beskar Jar.

The dialogue points were challenging to score this week because many scenes featured a group of masked Mandalorians repeating the phrase ‘This is the Way.’ Generally, points were awarded when it was judged a character would say the phrase in a certain situation.

Everyone who encountered the Imperial Commandos or Praetorian Guards again this week was awarded points because the rules don’t specify that an encounter spans across episodes in the same way as visits to planets. Likewise, Grogu was awarded points again this week for being held by IG-12. Below is a recap of all the other points that were scored in Chapter 24: The Return.

Of the 25 League Characters competing in the Mandalorian Fantasy League this year, 9 scored points for their teams this week, tying last week’s season high.

The top point scorer this week, breaking his own single week record of 45 points set in Week Two, is GROGU with 55.5 points. He scored 1 point for appearing in this week’s episode and 3 more points for appearing last onscreen (shared with Mando.) He used the Force fourteen times in this episode, scoring 3 points each time, for a total of 42 points. In the confrontation with the Praetorian Guards, he used the Force to assist with five leaps. He also used the Force three times to push the guards after Mando joined the fight, and one time to push a weapon away from one of the guards. In the fight against Moff Gideon, he used the Force two more times: once to push Gideon, and again to push his weapon away. When Axe Woves crashed the light cruiser into the planet, GROGU used the Force again to shield himself, Mando, and Bo-Katan from the blaze. Later, at the New Republic base, he used the Force to leap onto the bar stool, and in the final scene of the season, he used the Force to levitate a frog. He was held twice in this episode: once by IG-12 and once by Mando, scoring 1 point each time. He scored 4 points for appearing onscreen during two wipe transitions, and 0.5 points for eating bar snacks at the New Republic base. He encountered both the masked Imperial Commandos and the Praetorian Guards on Mandalore, scoring 0.5 points each time, and he scored 2 points for visiting the planet Nevarro. Congratulations to Blue Oreos In Blue Milk and The Beggar’s Canyon Bullies for picking GROGU in GROUP A this year!

In second place this week, with less than half the number of points that GROGU scored, is BO-KATAN KRYZE with 26 points. She scored 1 point for appearing in the episode and 4 points for appearing onscreen during two wipe transitions. She was the first League Character to appear onscreen and the first to speak a line of dialogue, scoring 5 points each, for 10 total points. She was awarded 1.5 points two times for repeating the phrase ‘This is the Way’ at Ragnar Vizsla’s baptism. She was masked, and her voice was not distinguishable, but because she has walked The Way and been known to repeat the phrase in the past, it was judged that she would repeat the phrase at this ceremony. She scored 0.5 points for encountering the Imperial Commandos near the beginning of the episode and 0.5 more points for encountering them again when she returned with reinforcements to fight them near the end of the episode. She ignited the Darksaber three times during the battle, scoring 3 points each time, for a total of 9 points. She was also penalized -2 points when Moff Gideon removed her helmet during their duel. She did not receive points for saying ‘For Mandalore’ at the Forge lighting ceremony because it was clear her mouth was not moving when the other Mandalorians present repeated the phrase spoken by Axe Woves.

In third place this week is MANDO with 23.5 points. He scored 1 point for appearing in the episode and 3 points for appearing last onscreen (shared with Grogu.) He repeated the phrase ‘This is the Way’ two times after The Armorer said it, for 1.5 points each time. He was also awarded 1.5 points for saying it once in unison with the other Mandalorians at Ragnar Vizsla’s baptism. He also said the phrase ‘Outer Rim’ one time for 1.5 points. He scored 10 points for appearing onscreen during five wipe transitions and 2 points for visiting the planet Nevarro. He scored 0.5 points for encountering the Imperial Commandos and 0.5 more points for encountering the Praetorian Guards. He held Grogu once in this episode for 0.5 more points.

In fourth place this week is AXE WOVES with 13 points. He scored 1 point for appearing in the episode and 4 points for appearing onscreen during two wipe transitions. He scored 1 point each of the three times he said the name of the planet Mandalore at the Forge lighting ceremony. He was awarded 3 points for saying the phrase ‘This is the Way’ twice at Ragnar Vizsla’s baptism. Though he does not walk The Way, he wore his helmet in a show of respect for the religious ceremony, so it was judged he would also repeat the phrase as a show of respect. The same reasoning is applied to Koska Reeves. He exited Mandalore’s atmosphere and boarded the light cruiser in orbit above the planet, so he was awarded 4 points for visiting Mandalore again when he crashed the wreckage of the light cruiser into Moff Gideon’s base. He was also penalized -2 points for removing his helmet once.

In fifth place this week is THE ARMORER with 11.5 points. She scored 1 point for appearing in the episode and 2 points for appearing onscreen during one wipe transition. She said the phrase ‘This is the Way’ twice for 3 total points, and the name of the planet Mandalore once for 1 point. She scored 4 points for re-visiting Mandalore after leaving the planet last week to board the light cruiser in orbit, and she scored 0.5 points for encountering Imperial Commandos in the battle to re-take the planet from Gideon’s forces. She was masked at the Forge lighting ceremony, but it was judged she would not have repeated ‘For Mandalore’ from the stage, just as Bo-Katan did not.

Trailing The Armorer by 0.5 points is KOSKA REEVES, in sixth place this week, with 11 points. She scored 1 point for appearing in the episode and 4 points for appearing onscreen during two wipe transitions. She scored 2 points for saying the name of the planet Mandalore twice at the Forge lighting ceremony and 3 points for saying the phrase ‘This is the Way’ twice at Ragnar Vizsla’s baptism. Like Bo-Katan, she scored 1 total point for encountering Imperial Commandos twice.

Making his second appearance this season is New Republic pilot CARSON TEVA, in seventh place this week, with 6.5 points. He scored 1 point for appearing in the episode and 2 points for appearing onscreen during one wipe transition. He scored 0.5 points for sipping spotchka at the New Republic’s base, and 3 additional points because spotchka is blue.

In eighth place this week is GREEF KARGA with 5 points. He scored 1 point for appearing in the episode and 3 points for speaking the final line of dialogue. He also scored 1 point for saying the name of the planet Nevarro once.

Also making his second appearance of the season, and in ninth place this week, is MOFF GIDEON with 2 points. He scored 1 point for appearing in the episode and 2 points for appearing onscreen during one wipe transition. He scored 0.5 points for encountering the Imperial Commandos and 0.5 points for encountering the Praetorian Guards. He was awarded 3 points for wielding the Darksaber when he gripped the handle of the ignited blade in a struggle with Bo-Katan, before crushing it (along with Bo’s hand!) and destroying the ancient weapon. He was penalized -5 points for dying in the conflagration caused by Axe Woves crashing a light cruiser into the base.

The third character making his second appearance of the season is New Republic pilot TRAPPER WOLF. He was not picked by any team this season, but would have scored 1 point for his team for appearing in the episode if he had. Every other League Character was penalized -0.5 points for not appearing in this episode, including all those who were picked by a team, but did not appear in any episode this season: BOBA FETT, FENNEC SHAND and AHSOKA TANO in GROUP E; COBB VANTH in GROUP F; LUKE SKYWALKER and R2-D2 in GROUP G; XI’AN, MORGAN ELSBETH and CARA DUNE in GROUP H; and GRAND ADMIRAL THRAWN, HONDO OHNAKA and SABINE WREN in GROUP I.

How did the teams fare this week? Finishing in first place for the first time this season are THE BEGGAR’S CANYON BULLIES with a scoring lineup of GROGU, GREEF KARGA, BO-KATAN KRYZE and KOSKA REEVES. The BULLIES scored the second highest weekly point total of any team this season: 95. They finished just one point below the season high 96 points scored by The Nevarro Nine in Week Seven.

In second place this week, and scoring the third highest weekly point total of any team this season, are BLUE OREOS IN BLUE MILK with 90 points and a scoring lineup of GROGU, BO-KATAN KRYZE and THE ARMORER.

Falling into third place this week are THE NEVARRO NINE with 54.5 points and a scoring lineup of MANDO, MOFF GIDEON, THE ARMORER, CARSON TEVA and AXE WOVES.

In fourth place for the second consecutive week is MY CHAMPIONSHIP LINEUP with 51.5 points and a scoring lineup of MANDO, GREEF KARGA and BO-KATAN KRYZE.

In last place for the fifth consecutive week is UNNAMED TEAM with 27.5 points and a scoring lineup of MANDO, GREEF KARGA and MOFF GIDEON.
